Gwentec Ltd

Gwentec was founded in 1992 by Ray Methuen and Jim Hodges.

Ray's career started in steelworks where he was trained as an instrumentation technician and electrical engineer. Jim's career started in Electrical Power working for the local electric board as an electrician . Ray and Jim later worked together at local company carrying out repair, calibration and design work before they decided to start their own company that called Gwentec (as they were a technology company based in Gwent)

Our early years were spent building up a client base of local industrial companies offering many different services and creating a variety of products before focusing on calibration and repair as specialty.

One of our early customers was Penn Pharmaceutical Services (now known as PCI Pharmaceutical Services Tredegar). We started by calibrating a single pen chart recorder and have now expanded to well over 1000 items on site. We grew with Penn and one of the items we started to calibrate were Hanwell Pro loggers. We later became a distributor of Hanwell Pro for the south Wales aera and supplied and calibrated loggers to a few more local companies.

At the same time we created many control solutions using PLC and HMI based control solutions for companies such as Thermofisher, Euroclad, Dragon Plastics and Penn. One of our biggest projects is still on going for Barry Docks. We created a remote operation dual HMI system that allow 4 independently designed systems to integrate into one control solution. Next year we hope to remove the existing aging and independently designed solutions with one common design that we can roll out across site.

In 2023 Ellab UK choose Gwentec to become the master distributor  for Hanwell Pro for the heritage market, we were selected because of our control panel experience along with our familiarity with the product and calibration capabilities. Ellab UK closed the Hanwell factory in March 2024 and offered Gwentec the chance to buy the intellectual property of the Hanwell Pro product line which we pursued with interest and got investors on board to raise funds to complete the purchase, ultimately we pivoted away from this purchase and towards a newer environmental monitoring solution called Conserv

Ray and Jim's Sons Steve and John joined the company in 2011 and became directors in 2019. Jim retired in 2018 and Ray sadly passed away in 2023.

In 2024 Gwentec partnered with Conserv to offer a future environmental monitoring solution to our heritage clients.

We continue to expand the 3 pillars of our business: Environmental Monitoring, Calibration and Automation and to this end we redesigned the website to reflect the 3 pillars of the business
